  • Illnesses among infants are often difficult to identify and frightening for parents. Fortunately, frequent urination is easily noticeable. It can be an indicator of several different medical issues.

    Bladder Infection

Bladder infections are fairly common among infants and children. Symptoms include frequent urination, pain or burning during urination and fever. Fortunately, these can be treated with simple antibiotics.

    Skin Irritation

Frequent urination may also occur when the skin around the genital area becomes irritated. Try eliminating possible skin irritants, like specific brands of soap, laundry detergent, bubble bath, diapers and lotions.

    Diabetes

Diabetes among children is commonly indicated by excessive thirst and frequent urination. If your infant's urinary problems are not explained by more common causes, consider testing for diabetes.

    Unexplained

Sometimes, infants and children experience frequent urination for no explainable reason. This condition is known as pollakiuria, and usually resolves itself without treatment in a few months.

    Consult Your Physician

Your infant's pediatrician is the most qualified person to diagnose frequent urination. Schedule an appointment if it becomes an ongoing problem
