  • You use Mozilla Firefox as your primary browser and have a long list of favorite websites that you have added to your "Bookmarks" menu. Now you are upgrading from a Windows XP computer to a Vista PC and would like to take those bookmarks with you. As long as you have some type of removable media, such as a CD and disc burner or a flash drive, the process of transferring those bookmarks is simple.

    Export Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks

In order to transfer your Mozilla Firefox bookmarks to your new computer, you will first need to export them out of your current browser. Open Firefox on your XP computer. Go to the "Bookmarks" menu and select "Organize Bookmarks." The "Organize Boomarks" window will open. Click on "Import and Backup" and then select "Export HTML." Select "Desktop" in the "Save In" location on the left pane of the window. Click the "Save" button to export your Mozilla favorites to a folder on your XP desktop. Close the "Organize Bookmarks" window and close Firefox.

Save the Bookmark File to Removable Media

Once you have exported your Bookmarks to the desktop, you will need to burn them to a disk or copy them to a flash drive. Insert the disk or flash drive into the XP computer. Open the disk or flash drive folder by clicking the "Start" button, clicking on "My Computer" and double-clicking the CD or flash drive folder. Click the "Restore Down" button on the top right of the window to the left of the "Close" button, to make the window smaller. Locate the "Bookmark" file on your desktop and drag it to the CD or flash drive folder. If copying to CD, the Windows XP CD wizard will open. Follow the steps to complete the wizard and remove the CD from the computer. If copying to a flash drive, wait for the files to copy into the folder and then remove the flash drive.

    Import Mozilla Firefox Bookmarks

After saving your bookmarks to removable media, insert the disk or flash drive into the Vista computer. Open Mozilla Firefox. Go to the "Bookmarks" menu and click on "Organize Bookmarks." Click "Import and Backup" on the toolbar and then select "Import HTML." Select "From an HTML File" and click "Next." Select "Computer" in the "Look In" pane on the left of the window. Open the CD or flash drive file and select the "Bookmarks" HTML file. Click "Open" to transfer the files from XP to Vista.
