Credit cards have been around since the 1920's in the United States. Oil companies and hotel chains issued the first credit cards to their customers. John Biggins of the Flatbush National Bank of Brooklyn invented the first bank credit card in 1946. The first credit card in the modern sense was issued in 1951; it was called the Diners Club and could be used at 27 different restaurants.
