The development of computer animation gave animators a number of advantages over traditional techniques, according to Bruce Gooch at Toon-Fx.com. Its popularity grew quickly because it made animation and production easier.
Reducing Time and Expense
Computer animation typically requires less time and fewer people working on the same project, removing much of the expense of producing a finished film.
Editing
Computer animation allows simplified and repeated editing, including changes of color and light, making redrawing or reshooting unnecessary.
Fewer Materials
A computer animator needsn only a computer and software to work. Cell animation and stop-motion animation, which manipulates puppet models, require many more materials and supplies, including paints, inks, papers, brushes, foam latex, silicone rubber and props.
Less Space
Computer animation does not require much space, unlike stop-motion, which requires studios, storage space, and sufficient room to lay out supplies, create models and bake them in ovens.
Special Effects
According to Scarlet Star Studios in Portland, Oregon, a computer animator can easily combine computer images with other special effects and scenes including water, fire and smoke.
