Quixtar is a division of Alticor, a company that specializes in multilevel marketing. Some critics, such as NBC's "Dateline," say Quixtar makes unreasonable claims.
Function
Members of Quixtar sell the company's products, which include vitamins and beauty products. However, participants also make passive income from recruiting other members and earning a commission on their sales.
Important Fact
As of 2010, a pending case filed by two of Quixtar's distributors charges several high-level members of the company with fraud and racketeering (running an illegal pyramid scheme). The case against Quixtar alleges that 99 percent of their distributors earned nothing, or less than nothing.
Features
According to Dateline's Chris Hansen in 2004, most of the Quixtar distributors making hundreds of thousands of dollars are doing it by selling tapes and books on how to earn more money with Quixtar.
Considerations
Quixtar is in the same family as Amway--a company during the 1980s that the government charged with making false claims.
Tips
Before joining Quixtar, people should consider that even Quixtar itself acknowledges that sellers only make about $1,400 per year and does not endorse promises of $250,00 or more a year in income.
