According to official product Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs), Rid-X treats septic systems with billions of active bacteria that naturally and efficiently break down waste products. The manufacturer also advertises that the bacteria consume and break down vegetables, a number of foods, oil, grease and even bath tissue. Some reviewers on the product review site ePinions claim that they have successfully used the product for years with no negative effect.
On the Other: Some Reviews Seem Negative
Although some reviews on the ePinions product review site tout the effectiveness of Rid-X, others claim that the product lowered water pressure and even damaged septic plumbing. One reviewer also pointed out that human waste already contains active bacteria similar to that found in Rid-X, a claim backed up by the Boat U.S. guide to boating sanitation. In addition, the manufacturer's own documentation notes that the Rid-X product does not unclog drains or prevent toilet backups.
Bottom Line
Although a few less than positive reviews or the product exist, numerous positive reviews indicate that Rid-X works for its intended purposes.
