  • Nausea can be very uncomfortable for a dog, who can't always let you know what's ailing her. Consequently, knowing the signs and treatment options will have your pup back to her old self quickly---and have you feeling relieved.

    Facts

Common causes of nausea in dogs include eating too much dry food too quickly, eating table food, worms and illness.

    Signs

Signs of nausea in dogs include excessive drooling, licking or chewing, and vomiting and diarrhea are indications that a dog's stomach is upset.

    Treatment

If your dog is vomiting, take away all food for 24 hours but be sure she remains hydrated. After the day-long fast, feed the dog bland food consisting of white rice and boiled chicken. You should also consult with your veterinarian, who may prescribe an over-the-counter medication such as Pepto Bismol.

    Tips

Make sure your dog has enough water to stay hydrated. If you think the nausea is caused by your dog eating too much too quickly, give him smaller portions.

    Warning

A trip to the veterinarian is needed if your dog is vomiting blood, has a fever, is projectile vomiting or does not get better after 24 hours. Other warning signs are pale gums and bloating.
