    According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, there were just over 500,000 bartenders employed in 2008 with an average mean annual wage of $20,000. Projected growth by 2016 is seven to 13 percent, which will increase the number of bartenders by well over 200,000.

    On the Other: Experience gets jobs

    When you take into consideration that the majority of these jobs require experience, you have your answer: bartending schools make an excellent means of learning the trade before you begin applying for jobs. Most of these schools offer certifications in two to four weeks, which is sufficient to obtain employment tending bar. To get the bartending job you really want, your experience speaks for itself.

    Since bartending schools are not accredited institutions, statistics on how many exist and their number of students in a typical year are not readily available. But if bartending is something you wish to do, taking a class to get your foot in the door of a new career is a good way to start.
