Nausea and dizziness feel unpleasant and are symptoms of a variety of ailments, most of which are not life threatening.
Vertigo
Vertigo is a type of dizziness that makes a person feel as though they are spinning. Vertigo is caused by problems with the inner ear, including inflammation and fluid buildup.
Motion
Riding on a roller coaster, in an airplane, or sitting in a moving car can cause dizziness and nausea. Some people also feel dizzy or nauseated when they travel by boat.
Medication
Many prescription medications list nausea as a side effect. Patients undergoing chemotherapy also occasionally experience nausea. If the nausea becomes unbearable, patients can request that their dose be adjusted.
Pregnancy
Up to 90 percent of pregnant women experience nausea in the first few months of pregnancy. For about 50 percent of women, this nausea leads to vomiting.
Migraines
Migraine sufferers are likely to experience nausea and dizziness. Some people experience migraine related vertigo, which may not happen at the same time as their headache.
