Welsh musician David E. Hughes sent wireless radio signals several hundred meters in 1879. Nevertheless, the age of radio didn't begin until electromagnetic waves were better understood. Between 1886 and 1891, Heinrich Hertz replicated and expanded on the work of Hughes. With a theoretical basis in Maxwell's equations, Hertz's work developed into modern radio.
