A notary verifies and confirms the identity of the signer on legal documents, usually by checking the government issued identification of the signer and witnessing the signing. Becoming a notary eligible to work in Minnesota is an easy process.
Verify Eligibility
There are four prerequisites for becoming a Minnesota Notary: the applicant must be older than 18 years old, the applicant must be a Minnesota resident, or live in a state that shares a border with Minnesota, and not have held a notary commission that has expired.
Fill Out Paperwork
Print out and fill out the notary application that is found at the Minnesota Secretary of State's office. You can also find the application online. If your previous commission has expired, reapplication follows the exact same procedure, but you check the box marked "re-appointment."
File Application And Costs
Send the application into the Secretary of State's Office. There are two fees involved that have to be paid: a $40 non-refundable application fee paid with your completed application, and a registration fee of $100 filled with your county. Minnesota commissions last five years before re-registration is needed.
