If you suspect that your husband may be having an affair, you will not rest easy until you know the truth. There are a number of ways to catch him in the act or at least in a lie related to it. Whether you hire a professional to help you accomplish this or you intend to do it yourself, remember not to make any accusations until you know the facts.

Hire A Private Investigator

Although you will have to spend some money, hiring a private investigator to gather information about your husband's activities is the safest route. There is little chance you'll be discovered when a professional is taking care of surveillance and you will not be exposed to any potential dangers involved in the process. Make sure your PI has a license and has liability insurance to protect you from any damage or injury that may happen as a result of the investigation. Ask for a contract that will detail what is expected and how much you will pay for the result.

Setting The Trap

Set a trap to catch your husband cheating when he thinks you aren't around. Most cheating husbands will quickly take advantage of the absence of the wife if they think she'll be gone for an extended period of time. Plan your trap well in advance and arrange a fake trip out of town either on business or with a friend. You can have one of your girlfriends ask you to go on a trip for the weekend a few weeks in advance. You should pack as if the trip were real and then leave on schedule, saying specifically when you'll be back home. After you leave you can borrow someone else's car and park near his workplace or home and follow him where he goes. Wear a different colored wig to make you less recognizable.

GPS

Buy a global positioning system and place it somewhere in your husband's car where he won't notice it. In the trunk or under a seat are good choices. Some GPS tracking devices allow you to log in from your home computer and locate precisely where the unit is. This will help you determine if he is lying about where he's going.

Keep A Journal

Write down everything you know about your husband's supposed activities. Write down specific dates, times and places where he says he will be in a journal for later reference. Include any excuses for when he doesn't show up when he says he will. Over time you can compare these notes with credit card transactions, phone records or simply use it to back up your accusations when the times comes. The cheating husband is likely to concoct cover stories for anything you present and will naturally question your memory. Having everything in writing will likely trip him up in a lie eventually.

Surprise Visits

Drop in on your husband unannounced at work or come home early after saying you'll be working late. You may discover something or someone he is trying to hide. This is especially helpful if you suspect he may be bringing someone else into your own home.
