  • Wedding place cards serve to show guests what seat they are supposed to sit in. This allows the wedding couple to seat friends, relatives or like-minded guests together and keep those who don't get along so well away from each other. Address your place cards according to the formality of your wedding.

    Casual Wedding

Place cards might not be necessary for a casual wedding. If you wish to use them, address your place cards with your guests' first names only. Use numbers for the tables--or names, if it goes with the mood and theme of the wedding. Having full titles, such as "Doctor Sarah Jones" on the place cards will likely seem out of place at a casual wedding.

    Semi-Formal Wedding

Write out the first and last name of each guest, their title and last name, or both. The way you address the place cards will largely depend on what is typically done in your region. For example, "John Miller" might be more comfortable in the West but "Doctor Miller" might be expected in the South.

    Formal Wedding

Address your guests with their proper titles, such as Doctor, Captain, Mr. or Mrs., and their last name. You may add their first names if there are multiple people with the same last names, or if you would like to.
