<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: It's a Better Look
Many air vents and heat registers are only available in drab shades of white or cream. Painting or papering the vent to match the surrounding wall will make the vent less noticeable, and give the room a bit of polish.
On the Other: It Can Be a Lot of Work
What seems like a simple project can easily turn complicated and expensive, especially if your wall is painted in a faux finish, or if it's covered with a patterned wallpaper. And if the vent's in an out-of-the-way corner, or hidden behind furniture, then who's to know?
Bottom Line
If there's a glaring difference between the wall color and the vent, or it's in a very visible spot, then go ahead: It's worth the effort. Or ask a professional painter or paper-hanger to do the job for a small fee.
