Homosexuality is common across different taxa of animals. Some examples include * Bonobo apes, which routinely engage in both heterosexual and homosexual behavior; * rhesus macaques, which engage in sex play and the occasional mounting of members of the same sex; * chinstrap penguins, particularly a pair of males from New York's Central Park Zoo who have even raised a chick together; * certain populations of female western gulls, in which up to 15% engage in homosexual behavior; * bighorn rams, where at least 8% engage in homosexual behavior; * even ostriches, where some males in a population will run at each other in a bizarre version of the normal courtship dance. Others may include bottlenose dolphins, black swans, flamingos, foxes, white-tailed deer, orcas, and lions. There is a book that chronicles all sorts of unusual mating practices in the animal kingdom (Biological Exuberance: Animal Homosexuality and Natural Diversity, by Bruce Bagemihl), which would be an interesting read if anything. Yes. If you were to slice up brains (after they have died) you will see that the only difference between male and female brains is the size of the Hypothalamus. In males this testosterone filled region is twice the size of that in females. Gay animals will have the wrong sized hypothalamus. In humans they have the choice of a sex change because they will have the wrong amount of testosterone in their brains making them think that they are the wrong gender, animals don't have this choice.
-
Humans are animals. Some humans are gay. Does that answer your question?
-
I have seen male dogs try, and complete, to mate with mail dogs. I have seen male dogs "clean" other male dogs. If that isn't "gay"______
-
There actually was a report of a gay penguin. Look it up if you don't believe me.
-
A good book on the hundreds of species of gay animals read: "Evolutions Rainbow" by Janet Roughgarden.
-
Yes, my dogs are all male and they continually hump one another. LOL
-
YES they do, my Mother had a greyhound that won the greyhound St Leger, obviously she wanted to breed from it but it was not going to happen naturally the dog was not interested in bitches only other dogs
-
Absolutely. Homosexuality and homosexual behavior has been widely documented in over 400 species.
-
1. Humans are animals 2. Many humans are homosexual. => Animals can be homosexual. Q.E.D.
-
Yes they do, it is seen throughout the animal world.
-
It occurs naturally in most species.
-
WTF???? that made mw laughf, but umm it naturally occures in animals, they dont choose to be
-
Yes, it happens surprisingly often. A group of homosexual male penguins at a zoo in Germany were especially close - so keepers introduced some females to try to get them to breed. This attempt failed miserably, as the males just became even closer. When the females showed intrest, the males pretended some rocks were eggs they were incubating. The females quickly lost interest.

I would be surprised to discover that homosexuality, as opposed to acts of homosexuality, i.e. an animal having only sexual experience with other members of its own sex, had ever been documented in any species other than our own. Of course I expect I will be inundated with evidence that shows me to be wrong.
-
I think it has been proven that they do hump each other, animals of the same sex.
-
no they cannot be. homosexual refers to humans.technically the word homo is latin for human male. since animals aren't human they can't be homosexual.
-
I don't know... But I know that everytime my male cat and my friends male cat get together they hump each other... but my male cat doesn't hump my female cat... So I'm beginning to wonder... He's fixed but he seems to have an attraction to my friends male kitty.... lol
-
Yes many species do. It is not uncommon at all. I can find some sources for this if you like but a quick Google search should reveal the information.
-
Yes :)
-
Some pretty compelling evidence that it does: http://youtube.com/watch?v=OIcrCZQkSlg (to be fair, it does have a bit of vulgarity in it, so don't watch if that sort of thing offends you)

"Homosexual (as well as bisexual) behavior is widespread in the animal kingdom. Animal sexual behavior takes many different forms, even within the same species and the motivations for and implications of their behaviors have yet to be fully understood. A 1999 review by researcher Bruce Bagemihl shows that homosexual behavior, not necessarily sex, has been observed in close to 1500 species, ranging from primates to gut worms, and is well documented for 500 of them. Homosexuality in animals is seen as controversial because some assert it points to the naturalness of homosexuality in humans, while others counter that it has no implications and is nonsensical to use animal behavior to justify what is or is not immoral." "Some selected species and groups 4.1 American Bison 4.2 Birds 4.3 Bonobo and other apes 4.4 Bottlenose Dolphins 4.5 Dragonflies 4.6 Elephants 4.7 Fruit flies 4.8 Giraffes 4.9 Japanese Macaque 4.10 Lions 4.11 Lizards 4.12 Sheep 4.13 Spotted Hyena " Source and further information: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_animals

homosexuality = population control Please try not to overpopulate.
-
Earlier today I saw a cow trying to hump another cow. So the answer is yes.
-
I swear my horse is a lesbian...seriously, she tries to get the other females to hump her.
-
Not as far as they themselves are conserned. I don't think they care one way or the other. Interesting. +4
-
Homosexual behavior is seen in many animals from what appears to be short term fun stuff (like "GG Rubbing" in bonabo chimps) to long term same sex pair bonding. And biologists keep finding new examples from birds to beetles.
-
Absolutly. I think it is just a genetic defect rather than a choice. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_animals http://www.news-medical.net/?id=20718 http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0722_040722_gayanimal.html

Yes!! Jake is a Gummy Bear and he is gay therefore he is a Gay Animal :D I know you are pleased with this news :) 100 points to Griffindoor
-
People .. humans .. we're animals. ... but they do not exist in Iran.
-
I've seen a male dog, sex another male dog. Tramatized...>>
-
yeah its pretty gross too nobody wants to see that
-
Most of this seems to be irrelevant data, because animals have evolved through the various methods of natural selection and do not necessarily have to follow universal laws, but rather must follow whatever personal laws allow them to mate if rubbing up to another male has become common, but does not prevent male/female intercourse, than there is no reason for it not to continue, however to say that homosexuality has survival benefits is farcical. Almost as farcical as to say that natural selection has a bloody bit to do with human morality. The only true evidence then, in my view, comes from dolphins, who have a psychological concept of sexuality as a goal in and of itself unknown to other non-human species. Dolphins however may be too perfect of an example, they represent humans without significant sexual taboo, and are observed to be willing to engage in sexual behavior with anything or anyone. Unless your argument is that humans do not need morality with regards to sexuality, because dolphins do not, it is a farce to say that homosexuality is supported in any way by the animal kingdom. Remember that dolphins also regularly mate with their siblings. It would be far better to turn to philosophy than to biology, biology is a breeder's world.

A first-ever museum display, "Against Nature?," which opened at the University of Oslo's Natural History Museum in Norway, presents 51 species of animals exhibiting homosexuality. "Homosexuality has been observed in more than 1,500 species, and the phenomenon has been well described for 500 of them," said Petter Bockman, project coordinator of the exhibition. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/15750604/ But of course, that issue has stirred debate: http://news.nationalgeographic.com/news/2004/07/0722_040722_gayanimal.html Personally I think homosexuality exists in animals. When my other dog was still alive, I saw her and my dog (who's still alive) trying to hump each other. Both of them are females.
-
i dont think they're aware of sexual preference, they just follow their instincts to reproduce.
-
Yes. Basically, in just about every species in which researchers have looked for homosexuality, they have observed it, The earlier belief that "animals don't do that sort of thing" was because nobody had actually looked for it.
-
Yes, it's totally natural, just not common, just like being left handed is.
-
Yes many animals have exhibited homosexual behavior. Here is a link to give a more elaborate list and description. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_animals_displaying_homosexual_behavior
-
Yes, it's been documented in hundreds of species... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homosexuality_in_animals
-
I don't think gay animals exist. I think it is only a human aberration.
-
Sure seems like it sometimes when "he" is trying to hump everything in sight. lol +5
-
Haha! :D Probably. Who knows?!
-
Sure, watch South Park. Stan's dog is gay.
-
Yes. I have personally known a dog that had absolutely no interset in female dogs. He would, however, mount male dogs. He would also lay around and lick the other male daogs penis all day long.
-
Rarely. Homosexuality is extremely rare in the animal kingdom outside of humans. Most cases of animal homosexuality, are very limited and tend to be more a display of bisexuality rather than full homosexuality. so while its plausible, i would say there probably arent many gay dogs if any.
-
i dont know exactly.but ive seen a guy and guy cat do it before. oh and i saw a chuawawa licking a cats butt. i dont think they really care. exept for the fact that they have different parts...... hope that helps :)
-
Yes they can. There are some species that are very bisexual.
-
my daughter's shih tzu is gay! he was always trying to get to the male choco lab...and when we brought a little slutty girl shih tzu home for him, he was scared to death and hid behind the washing machine!
-
"Homosexuality has been observed for more than 1,500 animal species, and is well documented for 500 of them." Geir Soeli, the project leader of the Gay exhibition entitled "Against Nature" at the Oslo Natural History Museum has a exhibition on Gayness in nature. Soeli's exhibition about homosexuality and animals shows that homosexuality can't be "unnatural." A statement in the exhibition says, "We may have opinions on a lot of things, but one thing is clear -- homosexuality is found throughout the animal kingdom, it is not against nature." Soeli also cites Greek philosopher Aristotle's observations of gay hyenas 2,300 years ago and bisexual Bonobos, a type of chimpanzee. + 5
-
lol what do they know? but i guess so, yes.
-
They can. however it is a very uncommon rarity, much more so than with humans. Its to an animal's eveolutionary disadvantage to be gay, they wouldnt be able to reproduce.
-
i had a dog that use to hump anything and anybody, he once humped a german shepard (male) , he was weird but i dont think he knew he was gay, just horny---
-
I have heard that 10% of all animals exhibit homosexual tendencies. 10% is also the percentage of humans who are homosexual (according to that report). It seems to be about right.
-
I had a very gay dog. We had plenty of females for him to mess with if he wanted to, but he would only have sex with our male dogs. One of them didn't seem to mind it much either even though I know he fathered at least 1 litter of pups.
-
my sister in law has 2 dogs and they are always humping and licking each other... its so gross.

gayness is natural through-out nature, and in fact, aberrations to the reproductive procedure are as natural as you can get. nothing in nature is absolutely precise--instead, success comes through the accident of abundance and over-kill. you throw enough darts at a dart board, some of them are bound to hit. thus children are born. but not all the darts hit: not all sex results in offspring, hetero- or otherwise. it's still natural for animals and for us to keep trying! and you can't possibly expect ANY single individual to be a microcosm of a single, perfect path to reproduction. no single individual can possibly be the single, perfect model of ANY aspect of being human.
-
No, when dogs hump each other its not because they are "gay" its because humping is a sign of dominance. Some animals like worms, can be of both genders so does that make them transexual?
-
According to the link you want me to ask this question.
-
Actually, animals don't have to live with bogus labels. They can be gay today, straight tomorrow, and nobody seems to give a shit.
-
may b it exists may b not ,,,,but dont think it exists right now coz its nature n nature keeps its balance somehow ...so there will b equal quantity of male n female animals in this world till no external force changes it like (HUMANS).........
-
Yes it does happen~~ what an ordeal/
-
Yes, VIRGINIA, there is homosexuality exist in the animal kingdom. It exists as certainly as love and generosity and devotion exist, and you know that they abound and give to your life its highest beauty and joy. Alas! how dreary would be the world if there were no homosexuality exist in the animal kingdom. It would be as dreary as if there were no VIRGINIAS. There would be no childlike faith then, no poetry, no romance to make tolerable this existence. We should have no enjoyment, except in sense and sight. The eternal light with which childhood fills the world would be extinguished.
