  • A varied group of people work in the health care field, doing different jobs. They wear different outfits depending on their job and whether or not they see and treat patients. A physician assistant sees and treats patients in the office and in other clinical settings, and, as a result, they may wear different outfits.

    Professionalism

One of the main points of being a professional is to look like one. This is because appearances really do matter in health care like in any other industry. One article of clothing, the white lab coat, is universal in portrayals and identification of a medical professional.

    Denim

Generally, denim clothing is not allowed in the dress codes of most health care institutions for any of the staff. This includes jeans or shirts made from denim. There are some surgical scrubs that look like denim. Their use is usually accepted on a case by case basis.

    Surgical Scrubs

Surgical scrubs have become almost universal in their use in all sorts of health care settings. They come in a variety of colors and patterns. Physician assistants are known to wear them in different settings. The color and pattern of their scrubs must always conform to the dress code of their organization.

    Shoes

Shoes are very important for a physician assistant because of the hours spent working on his feet. White sneakers go well with most outfits, and there are plenty of dress shoes that have comfort soles incorporated into them. Sandals or other open-toed shoes are always unacceptable in health care settings.

    Jewelry

Physician assistants may wear jewelry that does not get in the way of their work. For example, rings that prevent gloves from being worn are not a good idea. Neither are chains or bracelets which may get caught on items or soiled with biological material.
