  • College takes time and money to complete. By gaining a two-year degree, also known as an associate's degree, in science, you open the doors to many careers and increase your earning potential. You also establish a solid foundation should you decide to pursue a bachelor's degree in the future.

    Medical Careers

Use your associate's degree in science to land a job in the medical field. Some career possibilities include biological technician, biomedical technician or a cell structure technician. A biological technician assists a biologist with lab work. You may be responsible for helping take measurements, making calculations and keeping records. A biomedical technician usually operates technical equipment and assists scientists with research focused on developing pharmaceuticals or medical products. A cell structure technician works in a clinical laboratory studying cellular structures within living organisms.

    Business Careers

An associate's degree in science can help you to secure a job in a business environment. Some possibilities include an accounts payable clerk, an accounts receivable clerk, a broadcast engineer manager or a wireless network administrator. Accounts payable and accounts receivable clerks help companies maintain records and track invoices due and payments owed to the company. They also help keep track of expenses. A broadcast engineer manager works in television or radio. In this position you would oversee the technicians who run the broadcast equipment. A wireless network administrator sets up and maintains the wireless computer network within a company. You'll troubleshoot problems, configure hardware, plan upgrades and set up user accounts. You could also work as an administrative assistant helping to carry out day-to-day operations within a business environment. Or you may consider working as a customer service representative, answering customer questions and assisting customers with problems that they encounter after making a purchase from your company.

    Other Opportunities

Many other opportunities exist for someone holding an associate's degree in science. Aerospace technicians, software application developers and plant technicians are all positions that often require an associate's degree. As an aerospace technician, you'd work on research and development in the aerospace industry. As a software application developer, you'd work with a team to plan, design and implement new software applications. A plant technician oversees safety and maintenance within power plants.
