  • A tankless hot water heater is exactly what the name implies, a device that heats water without storing it in a tank. Also called an on-demand hot water heater because it produces hot water when you want it, the tankless hot water heater takes cold water from your water source, heats and then distributes it.

    Fixing Tankless Hot Water Heaters

If the water heater is not on you should check the power source, which will either be electric or gas. If electric, make sure the wires are connected to the heater and plugged into the electrical outlet. If gas, check the gas burner pipes for connection issues and blockage. Make sure the unit is turned on and in stand-by mode, ready for a hot water call, which is a hot water faucet being turned on. If the water is not running hot enough, check the gauge for desired hot water temperature and set it to your preference. Also, if the water flow is too fast the unit does not have time to heat the cold water coming in before it comes out hot. Adjust the water flow to correct this problem. If the water flow is too slow, remove and clean the water filter to eliminate clogging. If there is water leakage in or around the heater, check the water pipe connections in and out of the heating unit. If these problems continue, call a technician to address the issues.
