Types
According to Dell, when all activity on the computer stops, this is considered a computer freeze. There are two types of basic computer freezes, which include a freezing of all programs or only one program.
Considerations
Laptops can freeze for a variety of reasons. One common cause of a computer freeze is the running of too many applications on the computer. If the laptop is overloaded with numerous applications, it could freeze.
Overheating
Sometimes laptops freeze if they get too hot. Laptops come equipped with computer fans, but overheating is still possible if the laptop is not resting at a proper angle or has been running for an extended period of time.
Solution
When all applications on a computer are frozen, the only solution is to shut the computer down manually using the power button. In most cases, the power button should be held down for at least five seconds.
Warning
A frozen application can cause you to lose your data. You should continually save your data to prevent losing important information if your laptop freezes.
