  • The "F" drive is a storage device connected to your computer. It is most likely a USB stick or some other mass storage device (SD cards, Memory Stick Duo, External Hard drives, etc.). However, if your computer has three or more drives connected to the motherboard--highly unlikely in personal computers--the "F" drive will be a hard drive or DVD drive. Transferring data from an "F" drive to a new computer is a simple task.

    The Process

If your "F"drive is external, plug it in to your computer. A device that uses a firewire interface should be plugged into the firewire port; a device that uses a USB interface should be plugged into a USB port. A window called "Autoplay" will appear after you plug in the "F" drive. In the list of options on "Autoplay," click on the last one: "View Folders and Files." Select all the folders and files in the "F" drive by pressing "Control > A" at the same time. Right-click the selected files and folders; a list of options will appear. Near the end of the list, you will see an option that says "Copy." Select that option and go to the place on your new computer where you want to transfer the data. If you do not have a specific place created, go to the desktop and right-click the screen. In the list of options that appears, select "New." In the list of options that opens after that, click on "Folder," which is the first option. When the new folder appears on your screen, name the folder and click anywhere to save the name. Then you can move your files into the folder for organization.
