<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Benefits of Warm-Mist Humidifier
Generally, warm-mist humidifiers run quieter than cool-mist humidifiers. Warm-mist humidifiers kill the bacteria and mold that otherwise would grow in the unit and therefore do not require filter changes as cool-mist humidifiers do. Warm-mist humidifiers are also better suited for a single room.
On the Other: Benefits of Cool-Mist Humidifier
Since there is no heating element in a cool-mist humidifier, it costs less than warm-mist humidifiers. Cool-mist humidifiers do not cause a "muggy" feeling, as warm-mist humidifiers do. Cool-mist humidifiers better humidify larger rooms, and in some cases, multiple smaller rooms. Mayoclinic.com suggests using only a cool-mist humidifier for children so there is no risk of burning the child.
Bottom Line
Warm-mist and cool-mist humidifiers both have the same benefit of adding moisture to a room. Deciding which to use depends mainly on personal preference. However, if young children are in the same room as the humidifier, only use a cool-mist one.
