  • Internet browsers allow computers with Internet access to display web pages. While it is simple enough to search for a website using a search engine, in many cases it becomes impractical to do so when one website is used frequently. One way to pull up a frequently used web page is by using a feature in the web browser software called a bookmark. This feature allows the user to go directly to the website without typing in the website address or having to search for the website using a search portal such as Google or Bing.

    Bookmarks in Microsoft Internet Explorer

Even though Microsoft Internet Explorer uses a different name for the bookmark section - "Favorites" - the procedure for bookmarking a web page is similar to that of other web browser software. To add a website to the "Favorites" list, go to the website to be saved, click on the "Favorites" menu, and select "Add to Favorites." A dialog box will appear asking you to name the bookmark. The default name for the bookmark is the same as the title in the browser title bar. To save the bookmark, click "OK."

    Bookmarks in Mozilla Firefox

Bookmarking a web page in Mozilla Firefox is straightforward. Go to the web page you wish to bookmark, and click the "Bookmarks" menu. Select "Bookmark this Page." A dialog box will appear asking you to name the bookmark. Like Internet Explorer, the default name for the bookmark is the same as the title in the browser title bar. To save the bookmark, click "Done."

    Accessing Bookmarked Pages

In Internet Explorer, click "Favorites." Select the bookmark that represents the web page you wish to open. Internet Explorer will open the web page automatically. In Mozilla Firefox, click on "Bookmarks." Select the bookmark that represents the web page you wish to open, and Firefox will go to the Internet site automatically.
