A red clay or terra cotta earth color is an excellent choice for the kitchen, hallway, dining room or living room. What better way to complement to such an undertaking than with another slightly darker earth color. You can even choose a rich yellow brown if you like.

On the Other: Maybe a Bright Blue

Try a true complementary color by consulting the color wheel. On the color wheel, a color is considered complementary when it is directly opposite. For terra cotta, the complementary color would be a blue-green or even a green, depending on the exact hue of the earth red. A slight swing towards blue might look really sharp.

    Bottom Line

Terra cotta is a very popular wall color that can stand on its own, therefore your best bet is to use a slighter darker earth tone. As an alternative, you might select a trim color with more pure color, but still use one that is close to the original terra cotta.
