Microwavable heating pads are used to relieve pain by applying heat to the part of the body that hurts. They stimulate blood flow, which speeds up healing. The pads have a cover made of cloth or soft plastic.
Ceramic
Some heating pads have ceramic pads inside them. The ceramic pad emits infrared heat after being heated, which penetrates the body deeper than the radiant heat of other pads.
Grain
Grains such as rice or wheat inside a pad can be heated in a microwave because the grains have a tiny amount of water in them. If the water is cooked out of them, they can no longer be heated.
Micro-beads
Micro-beads are small plastic beads used in heating pads in a similar fashion as grain.
Corn
Corn is another type of grain, but it is larger than rice or wheat. It is also safer than other grains and holds its heat longer, according to the Microwavable Heat Bags website.
Flaxseed
Flaxseed is a flower seed that contains 30 to 40 percent oil, which doesn't leave the seed and allows it to be used over and over again, according to the Bonanzle website.
