  • HCG is a hormone produced in the human body. It is produced in particularly large amounts by pregnant women. In recent years injections of hCG have become popular among people wishing to lose weight, as it is reported to have weight-loss properties.

    Diet Plan

Those taking hCG shots for weight loss must follow a strict diet plan. It is recommended that less than 500 calories are consumed daily, and sugar and artificial sweeteners are eliminated altogether. Instead, an entirely organic menu is advised.

    History

In the 1950s, British Doctor A.T.W. Simeons discovered that hGC changed the way the metabolism function and could actually help the body burn off excess fat at a higher than normal rate. He initially prescribed daily injections of 125 g, to be taken alongside the diet plan. Controversial author Kevin Trudeau further popularized hGC shots in subsequent years.

    Drawbacks

HCG shots can have a number of side effects including nausea, fatigue, acne and mood swings. Men may experience enlarged breasts and enlargement of the prostate due to rising estrogen levels.

    Effectiveness

The effectiveness of hCG is disputed and since 1975, and the Food and Drug Administration has required that the following be attached to any labeling and advertising of hCG: "HCG has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity."

    Availability

Although the FDA has approved hCG for fertility treatment only, it is readily available from online suppliers and can be self-administered by the patient. As with any injection, there is a risk of infection, and buyers cannot verify the quality of the product from online retailers.
