  • Cookies are a way for servers to store repetitive data or persistent data for later access, such as login information, passwords, shopping preferences and so on. Cookies are data gathered from all the websites you have visited. Cookies are not malware or viruses. They just have a bad reputation because hackers can use them for mischief. Therefore they are a necessary evil.

    Why Delete Cookies

If you store sensitive password information, such as bank account passwords or credit card numbers, it can be stored on your computer as a cookie and can be mistakenly sent to another server masquerading as a domain it is not. In other words, your browser can get tricked or confused and you can send this cookie information to a fake domain. Also, hackers try to hijack cookies to gain sensitive information about you so that they can gain access to your hard-earned money. So you should clean your cookies weekly.

    Delete Cookies

You must delete cookies through your browser. To delete cookies in most browsers, you need to access your browser and go to a special section, such as Tools or Options, and delete the cookie information manually. Each browser cleans cookies differently. Some browsers have you clean history and the cookie info at the same time. History and cookies are linked because your history is every website you browsed, as are your cookies. Hackers sift through your history to see the sites you visited and then use this info to get your cookies. If you clean your browser history and cookies weekly, the added benefit is that the sites you visited do not show up on a shared computer.

    Should I Block Cookies?

All browsers allow you not to accept cookies. Again, cookies in themselves are not bad. They make your browsing smooth and keep you from typing in passwords and other repetitive information over and over again. Therefore, blocking them is not recommended. Blocking cookies will make your life on the Web miserable, and many of your websites simply will not work. For example, any website that requires a password and any sites with shopping carts will not function. So blocking cookies would give you more grief than it is worth.
