Computers reduce the costs of basic internal functions. Writing letters, performing accounting, keeping up calendars and scheduling, and making long-distance phone calls used to be difficult and expensive, but are much cheaper now.

Payment technology provided by computers allows businesses to take credit cards and process payments without needing to use a cash box or process checks by mail. Credit cards would not be possible without computers.

Email and websites represent distribution channels that have low or no cost. It allows businesses to contact their customers without mailing out circulars in bulk.
Shipping
International shipping would not be possible without computers. Software and smart tags allow companies to be very efficient in controlling costs and ensuring the right goods get to the right place at the right time to allow international manufacturing and sales.
E-Commerce
E-commerce is an entirely new area of business that allows companies to buy and sell via computer to customers nearly anywhere in the world instantly.
