Triglycerides are a type of fat found in the blood. Triglycerides are often shortened to TRG in blood test results. High levels are considered unhealthy.
Usage
TRGs are stored in fat cells in your body. Hormones trigger their release to be burned for energy between meals.
Source
TRGs are the chemical form of fats found in food as well as the body. In the body, they come from fatty foods. Also, unused calories are converted to TRGs.
Lipoproteins
TRGs can't dissolve in blood, but they are transported throughout the body in the blood with the help of lipoproteins.
Levels
The normal range for TRGs is similar to cholesterol. About 150 milligrams per deciliter or less is considered normal. Above 200 is considered high.
High TRGs
High levels of TRGs have been linked to heart and coronary artery disease. High levels can also be indicative of other medical problems, such as diabetes.
