An independent research study published in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology showed that Mederma significantly improved the appearance of scars, especially facial scars resulting from acne or surgery.
On the Other: Avoid eye area
Merz Pharmaceuticals and one of its resellers, Aragon Products, warn consumers to avoid applying Mederma near the eyes. Mederma's product information urges consumers who get the product in their eyes to flush the eyes with water and seek medical advice.
Bottom Line
Mederma is effective for scars on the face, such as those resulting from acne or surgery; however, patients should not apply Mederma in the area of the eyes.
