<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Consumer Reports Likes Some Models
Consumer Reports published ratings of more than 50 washing machines on its subscription-based website. As of January 2010, the Whirlpool Duet Steam WFW9750W[W] is ranked third among them, and the brand has four models in the top 20. For all four, Consumer Reports touts their efficiency, capacity and overall performance.
On the Other: Some Aren't Worth the Money
One of Whirlpool's most affordable models, the Duet Sport WFW8300S[W], ranks next to last in Consumer Reports ratings because of average washing performance, noise, vibration and efficiency. The Whirlpool Duet Steam WFW9500T[W], meanwhile, comes in around the middle of the pack but retails for about $1,000, which is $200 to $300 higher than several models rated higher.
Bottom Line
While some Whirlpool washers are still considered to be top quality, the assessment varies by model. Buying a washing machine just because it has the Whirlpool brand name does not necessarily ensure a smart purchase.
