  • <h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Most Tervis Tumblers are Microwave-Safe

According to the Tervis Tumbler website, Tervis.com, the company's insulated drinkware is manufactured from "a high-quality polymer" and are safe for use in a dishwasher, a freezer and a microwave.

On the Other: Some Tumblers Should Not Be Microwaved

Tervis Tumblers are insulated using a double-walled construction, which allows the company to place emblems of sports teams, company logos, custom designs, etc., within the wall. The Tervis Tumbler website points out that tumblers with some emblems cannot be used in the microwave. A customer service representative contacted in January 2010 said that is because a few emblems contain metal--such as a mug with a fly-fishing theme that incorporates small metal hooks in the design. The representative said "99 percent" of Tervis Tumblers are safe for the microwave.

    Bottom Line

If a Tervis Tumbler emblem contains metal, do not use it in the microwave; otherwise, it should be fine. If you are uncertain, ask about it at the place of purchase or call the company's toll-free customer service line at (866) 886-2537. If a tumbler becomes damaged, send it back to the company for replacement; the products are guaranteed for life.
