Seroquel, a prescription medication, is an anti-psychotic medication used to treat psychotic conditions such as bipolar disorder, manic depression and schizophrenia. Patients taking Seroquel need to be at least 10 years old.
Function
Sequel works by changing the chemical actions in the brain. Dosing begins at 25mg daily and can be increased to up to 400mg a day.
Common Side Effects
Common side effects while taking Seroquel can include drowsiness, dizziness, weakness, dry mouth, runny nose, sore throat, nausea, vomiting, headache, anxiety, breast swelling, missed menstrual cycles and weight gain.
Serious Side Effects
Serious side effects while taking Seroquel can include fever, stiff muscles, confusion, jerky muscle movements, flu symptoms, increased thirst, excessive hunger, frequent urination or urinating less than usual or not at all. Contact your physician if you experience these side effects.
Considerations
Seroquel should be taken as prescribed. Take Seroquel with a full glass of water and if you are taking the extended-release tablet, never crush, chew, or break the pill.
Warning
Seroquel is not to be used on patients suffering from dementia. Elderly patients with dementia who take Seroquel are at an increased risk of heart failure, sudden death, or pneumonia.
