You're reading If you were a drill sergeant, told one to "drop and give me 50", and he takes a $50 bill out of his pocket, drops it on the ground, and gives it to you, THEN what would you do?
- which can also be phrased in the following ways:

Were/are you a drill sergeant in real life or are you merely suggesting this to any drill sergeant who may happen across this Q&A?
by Tondoteottotote on April 8th, 2007
I was a NCO in the US Army but learned how to deal with smartalecs from the drill sergeants who taught me. There is very, very seldom need for "wall-to-wall counseling" when you have the authority to make the joker beat himself up.
by CannedHam on April 8th, 2007
Wow, I didn't know the army was nothing but assholes.
by Retro_Rebel on May 13th, 2008
those 'assholes' were teaching others how to survive and deal with anything they had to.
by Carolann on May 13th, 2008
Deal with destroying other countries so the president can have a fatter wallet...
by Retro_Rebel on May 13th, 2008
That's your opinion, RR, and you are more than entitled to it.
If, heaven forbid, someday you find yourself in a dire strait and a soldier comes along to help you, be damn sure tell him to mind his business and leave you to your fate as you surely don't want some a-hole to touch you.
Of course, he'll ignore you and save your skin anyway. Not because he wants to, but because it is the duty of a serviceman to place his life in danger to protect the life of a civilian, even one as small and petty as you.
Don't like what soldiers are doing in other places? Then get off your fourth point of contact and make some noise to your elected representative.
by CannedHam on May 15th, 2008
LOL you are grouchy! Calm down and get in touch with reality. Look at all the kind servicemen "saving" Iraq by killing them all.
by Retro_Rebel on May 15th, 2008
RR instead of having 'pity' for us, go to MEPS and sign up..then you see that its not being grouchy..its being realistic..HOOAH CannedHam
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
Assholes???? Us assholes are the ones that keep you on welfare, keep you free, and eating all the fast food crap that you do thanks to our SERVICE..
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
Folks, settle down. The Army has the same ratio of idiots and assholes as the rest of the public.
by Nelson - Jetpacking from bed on May 26th, 2008
@ Mama Hero
I'm not joining the army and helping with their evil ways.
by Retro_Rebel on May 26th, 2008
Then move to a third world country. We can build a fort at your house.
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
@Retro & Mama: I am ordering you both to stand down.
by Nelson - Jetpacking from bed on May 26th, 2008
Yes General ;)
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
Actually, I was only a corporal when I got out.

Discharged under E6
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
@ retro rebel's first comment here, they aren't assholes they just break the soldier's spirit before they can mould them into an army fighting machine, acting like an asshole is just part of it. they're really nice guys outside of the job.
by Cammmm on May 26th, 2008
Cammmm, One of my Drill's was jailed because he was beating some newbies. As to being molded, I understand the methodology. It's called brainwashing. I also know that there is a bell curve. The bulk of people can be molded, then you have the two ends that can't. One end just needs to be washed out. The other end that are mentally wired to see the mind games being played and learn to play them back. We ended up with green beanies.
by Nelson - Jetpacking from bed on May 26th, 2008
i was in cadets if that makes me at least a little military, but i didnt know much army dudes, but i guess you do get the odd sadist here and there. Yeah i understand the games too but that's just from the films :P i left cadets cos i wanted to grow my hair long and cos other cadets were idiot s**ts.
by Cammmm on May 26th, 2008
Like I said, you have the same ratio of great people and a$$holes in the military as you do in the civilian world. And I understand what you are saying. When I got out, I didn't get a haircut for 20 years, grew a beard and never looked back. I was tired of a lot of things. Because of the things I did and saw my body and mind are beaten. I'm 42, have been shot twice, killed two people at close range, seen friends die, have almost no cartlidge left in my knees, have nerves fused in my spine. So I now am a computer guy.

If my sacrifice accomplished anything at all, as small as it may be, then it was well worth it.
by Mama Hero on May 26th, 2008
Thank you for your service and sacrifice SSG Mama Hero. I thank you again for it, and always remember there are many here who understand.
by Nelson - Jetpacking from bed on May 26th, 2008
@ Camm... The ones who are not meant to be drill sergeants have to resort to trying to break recruits. The one who were born to walk The Trail know how to direct the recruit's energy into becoming a soldier. The fact the recruit is there in the first place shows that he wants to be a soldier, so there is no need to break him and you certainly do not want to take away his spirit; that spirit is needed to keep him alive on the battlefield and to keep his brain engaged. Lose the spirit and you have a dumb automaton who just goes through the motions and is liable to do something VERY dumb when given a weapon and ammo.
