  • The best way to make your own coffee pod is to use items that you may already have in your kitchen. Make your own coffee pod for your favorite style of ground coffee instead of paying for pre-packaged coffee pods. Making your own coffee pod is a convenient, quick and cost-efficient process that doesn't require elaborate materials or involve many steps.

    Items You'll Need

Use a measuring cup that fits the pod holder cup of your coffee maker. Use a glass, cup or jar that fits into the measuring cup. Use the smallest coffee filters you can find to avoid trimming the filter or packing excess filter paper into the coffee maker when you complete the coffee pod.

    Shape the Coffee Filter

Place a coffee filter over the top of the glass and shape it to the form of the glass. The center of the coffee filter should be over the opening of the glass. Turn the glass upside down so the coffee filter is on the bottom and use the glass to push the filter into the measuring cup. Press down and turn the glass with minimal pressure--enough to maintain and tighten the cup shape of the coffee filter. Lift the glass away and set it aside.

    Add the Coffee

Put ground coffee into the cup-shaped coffee filter. Use as much as you like without overfilling the coffee filter since you still need to fold the filter to create the coffee pod and the pod needs to fit in your coffee maker. Spread the coffee grounds over the area at the bottom of the filter.

    Create the Coffee Pod

Fold the right edge of the coffee filter over the coffee toward the left edge of the filter. Fold the left edge of the filter toward the right edge of the filter. Fold the remaining edges of the coffee filter in a similar way to create the shape of the coffee pod. Make tight folds to keep the coffee grounds inside the pod and to prevent a blockage when the pod is in the coffee maker. Press the glass onto the top of the coffee pod to flatten the excess filter paper in the middle of the pod, to further compact the coffee and to tighten the filter. A small fold of filter paper may remain on top of the coffee pod, but this will not have a negative effect on the pod nor will it hamper the performance of the coffee maker. Wet the edges of this fold and press them together to provide a tighter seal for the coffee pod. Remove the coffee pod from the measuring cup. Set the coffee pod into your coffee maker with the folded side facing up.
