Synephrine is a weight loss medication that can be purchased over the counter. Synephrine contains the same ingredient (Citrus Aurantium) that the now banned Ephedrine medication had. According to Subhuti Dharmananda, Ph.D., Director, Institute for Traditional Medicine (ITM), Synephrine can raise blood pressure and have other effects on Cardiac functions. As a result, it should be carefully monitored by a licensed physician if a patient decides to take it since it is potentially unsafe.
