<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Far Infrared Saunas Pose No Danger
Far infrared saunas are just as safe (if not safer) as traditional saunas. Unlike traditional saunas, which use steam to heat the air, far infrared saunas (also referred to as infrared saunas) use lamps that emit the same wavelength light emitted by the sun, thus heating the body. Unlike the sun's rays, though, infrared saunas do not emit damaging ultraviolet rays known to burn skin and lead to diseases, such as cancer. Far infrared heating lamps pose no dangers and are even used in hospitals to warm premature babies using incubators. Because infrared lamps heat the body and not the air, infrared saunas are less likely to spread and cultivate bacteria. Due to the lower temperatures used in infrared saunas, there are also no hot surfaces in the room and the air is easier to breathe.
On the Other: Saunas Are Not for Everyone
Despite these benefits, saunas dehydrate the body and deplete essential electrolytes and minerals through sweating. It is important to drink water before, during and after a session. Not all infrared saunas are the same, and people with certain illnesses and conditions (such as hypertension and congestive heart failure) should not use an infrared sauna.
Bottom Line
According to health experts, far infrared saunas, just like traditional saunas, are safe to use in ridding the body of toxins and are frequently recommended for stress reduction, relaxation and overall better health.
