<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Make Them Functional
The main purpose of an end table in the living room is to hold items: plates, books and reading lamps, for example. Typically, this means that they are placed next to chairs and couches. If you have a lot of furniture, you can place end tables between pieces so they are accessible to the most number of people in the room.
On the Other: Some Tables are Decorative
Once in awhile you will find an end table that is truly beautiful. In this case, you may want to make it central to your decor by moving it away from the traditional spot at the end of a couch and out into the open. Place it centralized against a wall to keep it out of the way but highly visible.
Bottom Line
Most people put their end tables as close as possible to couches and chairs in their living rooms. This allows the tables to serve their primary purpose--holding various items. If you really like your end table , however, put it elsewhere in the room so that it stands out.
