Converse, a popular shoe company that makes the Chuck Taylor line of canvas sneakers, does not recommend machine drying your canvas shoes. Exposing your canvas shoes to the high heat of a dryer will break down the fibers and cause the rubber soles to crack.
On the Other: Grasshoppers Says It is OK
Grasshoppers, a company that makes shoes for women, recommends machine washing shoes in cold water and then drying them on medium heat. Some dryers come equipped with special racks designed to hold shoes so that they can be dried in the machine without tumbling about.
Bottom Line
While Grasshoppers says you can machine dry some of its shoes, it suggests air drying others. Unless the care instructions specifically state that you can machine dry your canvas shoes, let them air dry and they will last longer. Stuff your canvas shoes with crumpled paper so that they do not lose their shape and set them aside to dry at room temperature.
