Sauder furniture includes a range of ready to assemble (RTA) or flat pack furniture. RTA means the furniture is manufactured and packaged in pieces in the factory and assembled at home by the purchaser.
History
Sauder furniture is created by the Sauder Woodworking Co of Archbold, Ohio which was formed in 1934 at the home of Erie Sauder.
Types
Sauder furniture stretches across 30 lines of RTA furniture in areas such as home office furniture, entertainment centers and bedroom furniture.
Brands
A number of brands are manufactured under the umbrella of Sauder furniture, including Gruga office chairs and Studio RTA.
RTA Furniture
Erie Sauder began creating church pews and cabinets before using the off-cuts of wood to create what became the RTA knock down table which was packaged in a flat box and marketed in 1951.
Status
The Sauder Woodworking Co. claims it is America's largest manufacturer of RTA furniture and among the five largest manufacturers of home furniture.
