<h4 class="dechead">On One Hand: Vinyl the Traditional Choice
Vinyl is one of the most popular and durable kitchen floor coverings. Among the reasons for its popularity: It is relatively inexpensive and doesn't require a lot of expertise to install. It is also moisture-resistant, which can be an important asset in a kitchen environment.
On the Other: Hardwood Is More Durable
Hardwood floors tend to be the longest-lasting kitchen flooring option. They stand up best to the wear and tear of all the daily movement that happens in a kitchen. Beyond their durability, hardwood floors also come in a variety of different wood options.
Bottom Line
Although they aren't the easiest types of floors to install, hardwood floors are the most durable choice---oak flooring in particular. If you do select hardwood flooring for your kitchen, you should know that you will need to sand them and apply a coating of urethane every few years to keep them looking nice.
