Most people who fly bring carry-on luggage. With the growing costs of checking in bags, this number will inevitably increase. With the limited overhead storage, it is critical to understand the restrictions regarding what size of bag is permitted on the airplane.
General Policy
Most flights restrict the carry-on bag to 45 inches. Suitcases that are 22 by 14 by 9 inches fit this requirement.
Luggage Template
Many flights will not require placing the carry-on bag into the luggage template. However, be aware that an oversized bag could be required to be checked in.
Unusual Cases
An unusual shaped bag, even if it meets the size restrictions, could also be forced to be checked in.
Warning
While most carry-on bags are designed to fit the 45-inch limit, this does not account for overpacked bags, which could exceed this limit.
Personal Item Allowance
One personal item is allowed along with a carry-on bag. This could include a purse, laptop, briefcase or items not exceeding 36 inches.
