  • There are several ways to transfer photos from an XD card to an SD card; the possibilities vary depending on the equipment you have at your disposal. The easiest scenario happens when you have an XD slot and an SD slot pre-built into your computer. The more complicated scenario happens when you have no card slots and need to use a card reader; the process, despite being lengthier, is still relatively simple.

    Using Built-In Card Slots

When your computer has an SD card slot and XD card slot, insert each card into its proper location. The computer will automatically assign each card a drive letter. Open "Computer" (My Computer in Windows XP), then open the drive letter associated with the XD card. Highlight the pictures you wish to copy to the SD card. Click on "Edit" in the menu bar, then click on "Copy to Folder." A box will pop up that lists all the available drives connected to your computer; highlight the drive letter associated with the SD card, then click "Copy."

    Using a Card Reader

Insert the XD card into the card reader, then connect the card reader to your computer. Wait for the computer to assign a drive letter to your XD card, then open "Computer." Open the drive letter associated with the XD card, highlight the photos you wish to copy, right click on the group, then select "Copy." Close "Computer," right click on your desktop, create a new folder (name it whatever you wish), then open that new folder. Click "Paste." After all of the photos are copied, eject the XD card from the computer and disconnect the card reader. Remove the XD card from the card reader, then insert the SD card. Reconnect the card reader to the computer and wait for the computer to assign the SD card a drive letter. Highlight the photos you copied to the desktop folder, then click "Edit" in the menu bar. Select "Move to Folder." A box will pop up; select the drive letter associated with the SD card from the list in the box, then click "Move."
