  • Severe forms of depression require medication or therapy. But for some minor forms of depression, all that may be required to help the patient cope with the disease is positive engagement with art and music.

    Therapeutic

Art therapy is used to help people of all ages and backgrounds cope with minor depression. By painting or drawing, patients alleviate stress and anxiety. Art therapy is a legitimate mental health option.

    Emotions

Art and music are created according to a person's emotional state of mind. If a depressed person listens to positive music, it may cheer him up. But the adverse is also true, and if a person spends too much time interacting with bleak art, it may worsen his depression.

    Creating art

As long as the person making art is honest with her creation, it acts as a sort of internal release of inner turmoil. And the actual process of creation is an empowering activity that helps build a sense of pride in an individual.

    Misconceptions

Art is not an alternative to mental health treatment, but merely a supplement. People who suffer from depression should not make art their only source of help.

    Severe cases

In severe cases of depression, art may be of little help. Deeply depressed people should consult a doctor immediately.
