Pet owners have waged war on fleas and ticks for many years. There is a multitude of products available, all of which claim to be the superior method for controlling fleas and ticks. Frontline and Frontline Plus are among the more recent class of flea medications that are applied topically once monthly to protect your pet.
An Effective Process
Frontline works by a translocation, a process characterized by the medication spreading over your pet's body. It is then stored in your pet's oil glands and hair follicles, providing prolonged protection from chewing lice, ticks and fleas.
Effective Ingredients
The active ingredients are fipronil and (S)-methoprene. Fipronil works to control and eradicate fleas from within the oil glands of the skin and hair follicles. (S)-methoprene is an insect growth regulator that works in conjunction with fipronil.
Effective Dosages
Frontline is available for dogs up to 22 pounds, 23 to 44 pounds, 45 to 88 pounds and 89 to 132 pounds. This ensures that each dog gets an appropriate dosage, maximizing effectiveness.
Preventing Re-Infestation
The insect growth regulator in Frontline helps to prevent fleas from being able to go through a life cycle, procreate and re-infest your pet.
Success Rate
According to the product information, Frontline will kill 100 percent of fleas within 12 hours of applying the product. Frontline's product information indicates that it controls ticks for up to 30 days and breaks the life cycle of fleas.
