Calibrating your Compaq laptop can be a great way to extend life of the battery and allow it to operate longer. While this method may not work the older a battery is, it is always a good effort to put forward in order to save a few extra dollars before the battery completely quits. The following is the calibration process and how to perform it on the Compaq.
Calibration
Make sure that the battery is fully charged and then unplug it from the power jack. Now put the Compaq to run with the screensaver off and all of the power options off as well. Allow it to fully run out of power so that it shuts off without you touching it and then plug in the power jack to allow it to fully charge back to 100%. This is how to calibrate the Compaq laptop however only with the Ni-MH batteries as the Lithium Ion batteries in the newer Compaq laptops cannot be calibrated and performing these methods could cause adverse effects on the Compaq. Another step to saving battery life that can be done to any computer is getting the static electricity out of the computer. Remove the battery from the laptop and hold down the power button for five seconds in order to clear out any electricity blocking up the wiring and the battery. This last step will help out the battery immensely.
