Cable phone service is voice over IP (VoIP) phone service. As such, it will support dedicated fax machines. Many cable phone converters offer the capability to have two different phone numbers. However, you can also connect your fax machine to your main phone line. Connecting a fax to your cable VoIP service is not difficult.
Single Line Connection
If you only have a single phone line, unplug your existing telephone from your cable company's telephone adapter. Connect the telephone cord that came with your fax machine to that phone jack. Plug your phone into the phone pass through on your fax machine. If you want to continue using the phone for incoming calls, consult your fax machine's documentation on how to set the fax machine to sense incoming fax calls.
Dual Line Connection
Connecting your fax machine to your cable company's VoIP service when you have bought a second telephone line is very simple. In many cases, the adapter for your VoIP service has two phone jacks that can be configured by your provider for separate phone numbers. To attach your fax, simply plug it in to the second phone jack on your adapter.
