According to the official Latisse website, Latisse was not originally designed for growing thicker, longer eyelashes. It was used to treat glaucoma, and it was discovered that it had the side effect of growing and thickening eyelashes. It was approved in 2001 by the Federal Drug Administration for use in treating glaucoma. Since 2008 it has been approved for growing out eyelashes.

On the Other: There Are Some Side Effects

As with most drugs, Latisse has side effects, which have been reported to include dry eyes, darkening of the eyelid near the application point, slight color change in the iris (especially brown eyes) and itchiness. None of these symptoms were permanent, and most were hardly noticeable.

    Bottom Line

Although it has its drawbacks, Latisse does work. Full results can be expected after about three to four months, including eyelash growth of up to 25 percent, 18 percent darker lashes and lashes that are more than 100 percent fuller.
