  • Almost every piece of home entertainment equipment has its own remote control. In order for the remotes to work, the devices need to be out in the open since Infra-Red (IR) waves don't travel through solid cabinet doors.

    Extender System

Extender systems receive the signal from a remote control and re-transmit it through remote units so that your components can stay behind closed doors.

    Basic Cables

Basic cables plug into one device and transmit control signals to one or more other devices.

    Connections

There are two types of connectors for a basic cable, either an RS-232 or 1/8-inch mini plug. There are also USB models to use with a home theater PC.

    Emitters

Some IR blaster cables have two emitters on one cable to minimize the amount of wiring that you need to do.

    Attaching the Emitter

Some systems have tiny emitters that are stuck directly to the IR receiver of the device to be controlled. This way, the device will still work even if the cabinet is bumped.
