The rain forests in South America carry an abundance of a grape-like fruit called "acai" which is found in acai palms.

Theories
Eating or drinking the juice from the acai berry is often said to contain special benefits, such as weight loss, lowering of cholesterol and a boost in energy. These claims have not been proven since research is very limited.
Supplement forms
Acai can be purchased as a dietary supplement in the forms of acai juice, freeze-dried berries, dried berry granules, berry pulp, pills or as an extract.
Side effects
Although dietary supplements are not monitored under a governmental protection agency, such as the Food and Drug Administration, acai berries have not been found to cause any significant side effects.
