Health insurance coverage for the self-employed includes a range of health care options, from basic medical coverage to emergency and specialized care. High deductible health insurance plans have a high deductible and are best for those who do not need regular medical care. These plans are also called "catastrophic health care plans." Depending on your overall health, purchasing a policy like this can lower your monthly premium, while providing protection against large medical bills. Deductibles range from $1,500-$5,000, which means you will be responsible for paying any medical bills up to that price point. This usually includes medical visits, prescriptions and some out-patient procedures.
